Close but No Cigar

The Asheville area is absolutely gorgeous. The mountains here are incredibly majestic and, as the name suggests, "smokey" (as in clouds & fog). The drive over on I-26 was dizzying in a very cool way. The folks here are pretty friendly, and it's a very artsy and liberal area.

However, it's not Vermont. There's a little too much churchiness (there's a highway named after Billy Graham), and it's actually a little too artsy for me. I prefer the independent, get-off-my-lawn wariness of Vermont. It's where I'm from, and where I belong. The libertarian spirit is much more alive & thriving in the northern climes. Plus, the skiing is better up there.
